Bio: My life profoundly changed when I found 12 Step Recovery and A Course in Miracles. As an undergraduate, I earned my degree in Anthropology. I had a successful business career and lived throughout Asia for many years where I developed a deeper love of world religious practices and how to apply them in my own life. Through dedication and practice, I am finding Peace of Mind. I became an Interfaith Minister to champion the message of Love and Tolerance.
In 2006, I was living in Bangalore India. One Saturday afternoon, I was standing on a busy corner where I could hear the bells ringing from the Catholic Church. Hindus were lined up behind me to make a religious ceremony called pooja at a street temple. Next door at the Mosque, the Iman was announcing Adnan, the call for prayer, from the loud speaker. Sikhs were also gathering at the nearby Gurdwara. I looked up and saw a beautiful vertical rainbow. In that moment, to me, it represented the divinity in all faiths and I was filled with deep love and profound peace.
When we learn the world is upside down and train our minds to constantly seek spiritual solutions to emotional anxiety, we can experience grace and peace.

Bio: This personal biography of mine was submitted to the Centers for Spiritual Living, as part of my application for the formation of my Slatersville, Rhode Island, Center for Spiritual Living Teaching Chapter here in Northern Rhode Island, where I have lived since 1952.
I am Natalia Gloria Rodrigues deRezendes, first generation American, daughter of Portuguese/Brazilian parents having immigrated to this nation in 1930. Portuguese was my first language.
Born in Rhode Island in 1947, I might begin by saying that I think I have been a teacher/performer nearly all of my life.
While living in NYC as a young aspiring musician, I first encountered Religious Science in the days of Rev Dr. Raymond Charles Barker. Having been raised as an ethnic Roman Catholic, this was quite a significant influential change in direction of my spiritual journey.
Educationally I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in a double major of Spanish and Music from Rhode Island College '74. I chose to take a major in Spanish, as I found it so so very close to my native language of Portuguese
In the early 70's I taught music in Blackstone/Millville, Massachusetts for eight years where I did general music classes and directed an elementary chorus for grades 3-6. I think the diversity chord struck me very early on whereby I had young children singing in many a foreign language at Holiday concerts. It was my thing about teaching "Oneness" and Diversity even way back then.
In 1978, I received a Master of Music degree from New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts, having majored in classical voice.
I then taught applied voice in the music theater department at Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts from about 1980-1995.
I was also on the applied vocal faculty at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island teaching voice in the music theater department from about 1990 to 2003.
I have sung as soloist and chorally directed for just about every denomination one might think of ... Roman Catholicism, all kinds of Protestantism, Judaism (.Orthodox, Conservative, and Reformed and Reconstrutionist) ; Christian Science, Religious Science, Unity....and at great length with Unitarian Universalist Association as I was the mezzo soloist at First Unitarian on Benefit and Benevolent in Providence, Rhode Island in the late 70's into the early '80's.
One of my greatest treats in my career of years past was to have been the Coral director of a group called "Coral Heranca Portuguesa", a choral group that was founded in the year of the bicentennial, 1976, and funded by the Portuguese government. The group was made up of mostly native Portuguese speakers and it was an awesome experience to have had the privilege of being the musical director as we toured to Portugal, California and Canada. It was an avenue through which I learned very much of my roots from a musical and cultural perspective.
I have owned and operated my own "One Voice" teaching studio here in Slatersville from 1979 to just this past year 2018... where I and several young apprentice teachers taught the "art of voice' to folks from ages six to senior citizenhood....as I so billed us. Throughout these 40 plus years of teaching, One Voice Studio embarked upon many a fundraising cause. Rhode Island Task Force, Project Haiti, in raising scholarships for young children as well as earthquake relief. Other charities we raised monies for were our local Milk Fund here in Woonsocket, Rhode Island and Alan Shawn Feinstein's Crossroads Shelter for the Homeless in 2003.
In 2009, I graduated from The New Seminary, an Interfaith Seminary in NYC founded by Rabbi Joseph Gelberman, Jon Mundy, Father Giles Spoonhour and Swami Satchidananda. These two years spent at The New Seminary were absolutely enlightening for me as I had always been an enthusiastic student of a variety of World Religions and traditions.
After graduating from the New Seminary I embarked upon creating my wedding ministry and providing elegant and personalized ceremony, many of which have been bi-lingual and tri-lingual ceremony, performed in Spanish, Portuguese and English. I am joyous to say that I was one of the first officiants to have performed same sex marriage in the state of Rhode Island when we finally became the last New England state to legalize.
Somewhere in the '80's I took SOM(Science of Mind) courses with Religious Science of Boston, under Rev. John Gould. I had also taken a number of courses with Unity of RI. So, my sojourn in and out of New Thought study took somewhat of a 40 plus year journey and is still ongoing.
It was in 2009, when I after I graduated from The New Seminary, that I decided that I would return to my studies of Religious Science at Concordia CSL with Rev. Ian Taylor. And so I began once again taking all of the prerequisite courses necessary before practitioner training.
In 2010, Rev. Ian Taylor strongly encouraged me to finish my SOM training on line and to pursue doing it in Spanish with Rev. Rebekah Pina and Rev. Ogla Silva, that upon completion I might begin my ministry in service to my community. It took nearly eight years and it finally came to fruition as I was licensed in Lake Chapala, Mexico in July of 2016 and then installed once again as RScP at Concordia CSL in Warwick, RI where Rev Ian Taylor is senior minister.
Rev. Dr. Rebeka Pina invited me to be the musical director for the the CSL Conference of the Americas in Lake Chapala, Mexico. I was musical director 2013-2015. In preparation for this event, Rev. Rebeka and I translated a number of New Thought songs into Spanish and created Sacred Circle Dance presented at the conference for three consecutive years.
In the year 2017, we produced four Concordia CSL Trilingual Celebrations of Love and light using music and movement in our ceremony and singing in Spanish, Portuguese and of course English. Rev. Ogla Silva came to Concordia CSL in June of 2017 to present service and workshop.
Over this last year I have continued "on line" assistance teaching with my sponsoring minister, Rev. Ogla Silva with our Spanish International community.
The Toltec Wisdom has become a personal passion of my Spiritual unfoldment having made several spiritual pilgrimages 2007 and 2008 to Teotihuacan with the master Don Miguel Ruiz, Don Miguel Ruiz, Jr, and Don Jose Ruiz.
More recently I have studied with them in week long workshops at Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York. In 2019, I made still another spiritual pilgrimage to Teotihuacan with Michele Laub, Toltec Wisdom Teacher.
I have also studied and worked with Rev. Michael Beckwith of Agape International in online workshop of Visioning for Forties, Fifties and Beyond and was most grateful to be a part of a weekend long workshop with Rev. Michael at Omega Institute in the fall of 2019.
Over this past year, 2020, I returned to the New Seminary for continued studies in my Masters in Interfaith Studies ... and this fall I am most delighted to say that I will complete my studies at All Faiths Seminary, toward my Masters and expectfully my Doctoral Studies with a concentration in A Course in Miracles.
Over this past spring I have resumed on line workshop studies in A Course in Miracles with Rev. Jon Mundy and I have had the utmost pleasure of taking my first elective course with All Faiths Seminary, a Wedding Intensive with Rev Susanna Stefanachi Macomb.
As a now septogenarian of more than seemingly ongoing zest for truth and teaching, I am most enthusiastic about joining your wonderful new organization of World Awake, that I might continue to be of service to humanity in Truth, Beauty, Peace and Love ...

Bio: Rev. Tom is an Interfaith Pastor who began practicing meditation while on an intensive retreat at the Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque, NM. The week spent in silence, service and meditation was a life-changing experience. Upon his return he was called by bishop of the United Methodist Church to open a Drop-In Center for homeless people in downtown St Louis.
Tom graduated with honors from The New Seminary for Interfaith Studies and became an Ordained Pastor with The Interfaith Temple of New York. Tom was further co-ordained through the Order of Universal Interfaith (OUnI) as an Interfaith-Interspiritual Cleric and Minister and took further vows to the Community of the Mystic Heart.
Tom has dedicated himself to rediscovering our individual spirituality through silence, service, and the practice of meditation. His experiences have led him to believe that contemplative insight is a strong catalyst for spiritual and social change. Tom's ministers to those in need through the use of mindfulness meditation in addressing long-term illness and chronic pain. He believes the practice can help in meeting the suffering of those experiencing the debilitating pain and depression of life-threatening dis-ease as well as breaking patterns of chronic addictions.

Ministry: 20 years of facilitating small group ministry gatherings and/or leading worship in Unitarian Universalist congregations.

Linda finally landed in interfaith ministry at the age of 69. Now established in her own practice of spiritual mentoring, she is able to draw from all these traditions to glean the best practices to guide the individual on their own path to finding and clearing what may be preventing them from fulfilling their sacred contract to serve the greatest good.

Rev. Dr. Tarasa B. Lovick
Services Offered: SPIRITUAL RETREATS
Learning and growing is a JOY. My experience is that enlightened teachers never stop living. As a teacher, my calling is to bring out the beauty you never knew you had, and to raise you like the wind that carries the leaf to the forest floor, to the silence residing inside you-your divinity.
Loving compassionate community retreats are a marvelous way to experience and realize how we are all connected. There is something sacred about sharing our learning with fellow sojourners. A huge bonus is that when others see our beauty, they can support our experiencing our own inner beauty. We grow from a small community to the world community-living in love.
All philosophical and religious traditions emphasis the importance of knowing yourself-which is the most difficult lesson in the world. You may be "sleeping" and forgotten or buried your authentic self deep inside you or be separated from it outside you. In order to be a happy content human being you must be living from inside your authentic self: All change comes from the heart. We can only be happy when we are on our true soul path.
Taking your journey with Tarasa, you will be guided through various multidimensional interactive processes and initiations. For example, you will have the opportunity to look at relationships. Tarasa will guide you to look into how you can deepen your bond with your "divine self" and connect to the truth inside you. If you are ready, you may create healing, insights or miracles. Miracles happen where peoples heart and mind are open.
Published book, "Encounter With God." Published many articles related to diverse topics including global spiritual leadership.
Services Provided To: ARE YOU READY TO EVOLVE?
Albert Einstein was correct, "The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking." Change requires making new choices. If you truly are ready to expand your heart consciousness to begin with you must be willing to take responsibility for what thoughts you dwell on. You can't control what thoughts come to your mind, but you can decide what you do with them. And you can learn to drop into your heart center.
Tarasa works with individuals and communities who are interested in living from their hearts.
Bio: On my personal journey, I began experiencing wholeness when I felt heard. The day after I graduated from high school, I set out to get free. I spent years in therapy searching for someone to listen. Most people never listen. A poem in my first book, "Encounter With God," called 'Clothes On My Back,' depicts this aspect of my spiritual journey. Ultimately, my pilgrimage gave me the exquisite gift of deep listening. Turns out that I was the person that had to listen. What I realized is that we must learn to listen to our own souls; listening is where love begins.
First, we learn to love ourselves; then we learn to love our neighbors, then we learn to love our enemies (sometimes our neighbors are our enemies), and in the fullness of time we learn to love God. This is the evolution of consciousness and compassion. No matter where your personal journey takes you, to discover the inner path of wisdom and truth, you must dive into the depths of your heart. It takes great resolve and courage being peaceful human beings and compassionate enlightened world leaders.
A principal question I ask is, "What can I do to be a proper vessel through which love can flow into the world?" For you, your heart will direct the next perfect step on your personal journey towards wholeness and enlightenment. It's the heart that understands: your heart knows everything and when it calls you it will guide you. Listening is a huge responsibility. Deeply listening, you discover the voice that doesn't use words; silence. Silence is the infinite opportunity to expand your heart and transform.
Once we know and trust our capacity to create miracles, we will experience the effortless flow of harmony, joy, and happiness in our own lives. The World Soul is nourished by people's happiness. So, when challenging times arrive (and they will), we will have the resolve and courage to be compassionate human beings. Carol Pearson reminds us, "The job of heroes is to enlighten the world by loving it, starting with themselves. Their task is not to slay the dragon, within or without, but to affirm the deepest level of truth about it: that is, that we are all one."
Connectedness is the natural state of being.
As an alchemist for spiritual awakening, any knowledge that I may pass on is to make you thirsty: knowledge is not wisdom or truth-consciousness is. My calling is to inspire your multidimensional expansion from the inside out. You are roused to discover God for your self: living in conscious awareness you will discover your innermost being, divine self. Awareness melts fear like a snowflake held in your hand. Freedom without fear is benediction. Freedom releases you to take responsibility for your choices-it allows you to see your "choices." Of course the whole notion of choices itself is a paradox.

Bio: I am a licensed ordained interfaith minister since February of 1996, a graduate of two interfaith seminaries and an author of two pioneering books, Joining Hands and Hearts, Interfaith, Intercultural Wedding Celebrations and Bless This Child, A Comprehensive Guide to Creating Baby Blessing Ceremonies. My work has been featured on (but not limited to) CNN, MNSBC, ABC, NPR, TLC and in the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, New York Magazine, The Huffington Post, Modern Bride, Martha Stewart Weddings, Pregnancy Magazine, Time Out NY and other media venues. Publishers Weekly dubbed my work "cutting edge". I have performed well over 2000 personalized ceremonies internationally. The results of which are often extraordinary. I provide spiritual, interfaith, relationship, wellness, grief and life counseling for people of all backgrounds and beliefs - and have helped many people navigate sensitive and challenging situations. An empath and an intuitive, I also offer energy healing for those who wish it. An orator and storyteller, I have conducted seminars, classes and workshops on various subjects, including The Art of Ceremony and Ritual, Weddings, Baby Blessings, Discovering Our Spiritual Next Steps, Finding Joy and Inner Peace, Let Your Soul Lead and The Art of Listening Within. I teach mediation and energy healing, and employ drawing and automatic writing as a path for authentic living, healing and transformation. An artist, my paintings have been exhibited at Union Theological Seminary, New York Open Center, Pace University and other spiritual and cultural centers.
A high powered marketing executive turned entrepreneur was not looking for God or religion. In a stressful, chaotic and competitive environment she simply wanted an everyday access to peace.
That woman was me.
I began that search over three decades ago by studying the universal and mystical teachings of the world’s religions. Over time my inner life became luminous. People noticed and asked me to share what I was doing. I began teaching meditation and energy healing, and pursued my loved of painting. I began exhibiting my paintings in galleries, cultural centers and universities.
Through a combination of mystical experiences and serendipitous events, I was led to The New Seminary and later to The All Faiths Seminary International. At the time, I felt no desire to become an ordained interfaith minister. The New Seminary’s president, Rabbi Gelberman’s message to me: "It will be revealed to you."
It took a leap of faith. I was following the signs.
At my ordination ceremony in February of 1996 at The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, the holy books of the world’s traditions were ceremoniously carried down the aisle and placed upon the altar. My paintings of four archangels flanked the altar. Two days after my ordination, I performed my first interfaith, intercultural wedding. People in attendance commented that it was the most beautiful ceremony they had ever seen!
Looking back, it seems as if invisible hands set it all in motion. It all began through simple word of mouth. Then I was interviewed for a feature article in a magazine. This led to other articles, television, radio, podcasts and web features. What followed was my book, Joining Hands and Hearts, Interfaith, Intercultural Wedding Celebrations, A Practical Guide for Couples (Simon & Schuster). Later I wrote Bless This Child, A Comprehensive Guide to Creating Baby Blessing Ceremonies. Both books are pioneering - changing the way ceremony and ritual are done.
Employing my decades of experience with meditation and energy healing, I was able to completely cure myself of Crohn’s disease and cancer! I have helped many others do the same for themselves. Healing begins by listening. When we listen to our deepest selves, attuned to our souls, we tap into our inner knowing. From there comes clarity as to the best health modalities and course of action that work for us. Spiritual, mental, emotional blocks are released. Listening to the Source All Being - that which is within us yet greater than us - brings us back to wellness, to who we really are. In its purest essence, this energy is love.
People often ask me why I chose this work. It always puts a smile on my face. For the truth is, this work has chosen me - and I am eternally grateful.

Bio: I was reared in Farmland, Indiana. Really, the town is named "Farmland." Yes, there are buildings in Farmland and no, there aren't any stoplights. I was raised on a small family farm, and I had plans to have a career in agriculture. God had other plans! The Lord called me into professional ministry on the day I graduated from High School. I moved to Haviland, Kansas and attended Barclay College. At Barclay College, I met and married Yvette Sorensen. After graduating from Barclay, we moved back to Indiana and I attended Wesley Seminary until I graduated in 2001.
After serving as a pastor for eight years and a denominational superintendent for four years, I was hired as the Executive Director of Christian Service International. Christian Service International is a short-term sending mission agency that partners with 400 churches across the US to send short term mission teams to several countries to share the gospel through service projects.
Since 2012 I have served as a pastor with the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ and currently reside in Danville, Indiana. I often lead a leadership workship called, "Next 2 Steps," which helps people discern the direction in life and/or ministry.
The best days of my life are when I spend time with my family. Yvette and I have three children, Tristan, Tiffany, and Tegan. I also enjoy reading, hiking and teaching.
My spiritual gifts include teaching, shepherding, and apostleship. My favorite way to "recharge" my batteries is to take a spiritual retreat day at a park or retreat center to break away from the normal routine of life.

She is the director of the Tree of Life School for Sacred Living and creator of the Tree of Life Interfaith Seminary, a two-year program, focused on the integration of prayer, meditation and spiritual practices from the world’s major faith traditions. The twenty–six module core curriculum, The Path of Crow: Journey to Your Inner Treasure, invites seminarians on the ultimate treasure hunt to discover their divine purpose and to offer their unique gifts in service to the greater good. In addition, she created an optional third year, the Spiritual Mentoring Certificate Program, which trained seminarians, as well as health care professionals, in cultivating pastoral mentoring skills.
Rev. Stephanie earned the Doctor of Ministry degree in 2017 from Andover Newton Theological School (now Andover Newton Seminary at Yale) where she graduated with honors and was inducted into the Jonathan Edwards Society. Her dissertation, “The Call of the Mourning Dove: How Sacred Sound Awakens Mystical Unity,” was awarded the Frederick Buechner Prize for Excellence in Writing. She graduated from the New Seminary in New York City in 2005 and was ordained an interfaith minister. In the 1980s and 90s, Rev. Dr. Rutt worked as a mental health counselor and taught for many years on the college level in the behavioral sciences including eight years with the University of New Hampshire. During that time period, she also earned certifications in various yoga and meditation disciplines and in the late 90s opened the Tree of Life Yoga Studio which later became the Tree of Life School for Sacred Living.
Rev. Stephanie is the author of five books:
Finally, in 2017, her essay, “The Shaykh and the Preacher,” was chosen for inclusion in the anthology, One Nation, Indivisible: Seeking Liberty and Justice from the Pulpit to the Streets, edited by Celene Ibrahim.
In addition to posting on her blog, “Become a Force for Good: Rev. Stephanie’s blog,” WordPress.com, and publishing Guest Commentaries in local newsprint, she has created numerous sacred studies programs for her community through the Tree of Life School for Sacred Living. Just a sampling of these includes: Rise Up! The Bhagavad Gita: Job Description for a Spiritual Warrior; Living Our Purpose: The Heart of Spiritual Practice; A Study of the Lord’s Prayer in Aramaic; A Study of the 23rd Psalm in Hebrew; The Sanskrit Mantra Course; Mantra Prayer: Doorway to the Sacred; The Interior Castle of Saint Teresa; and, the Lovers in the Wilderness series including studies of Walter Russell, the Blessed Mother Mary and Dr. George Washington Carver.
Rev. Stephanie has served her local interfaith council through visioning such programs as the “To Hear How Others Pray” series which invited lay people and faith leaders of different faiths to share personal experiences of prayer as a way of highlighting all peoples’ common humanity while respecting religious difference. In 2016 and 2017, she lead local faith communities in right action through the “Under One Sky Interfaith Peace Walk” which offered a visual demonstration of how people from across faith traditions could stand and walk together in unity and solidarity while, simultaneously, forging a common goal for peace.
Rev. Stephanie has served on the Board of Directors of World AWAKE! and presented at their 2016 and 2017 national conferences. She is also a member of Spiritual Directors International and The Sacred Dance Guild. Finally, in 2018 she appeared on the TEDx stage presenting, "Discovering Unity Within Diversity."

Bio: My initial start into being of service to my community was from my early interest in crisis counseling, behavior modification and domestic violence. I worked in several agencies with children with autism and adults with developmental disabilities. While I was perfecting a future career in therapy; a close friend and Abbot of the Benedictine monastery affiliated to the school I was attending admired my passion for helping people and through many conversations throughout the years, he learned of my initial ministry and family history. He was convinced of my role in ministry of the future, but never wholly shared that with me. Instead, he presented me with both an idea and an opportunity to solve social injustices and therapeutic assistance to a third world country. I found myself contributing to a Medical Missions team to Bolivia for 6 months with an ecclesiastical endorsement from the Diocese of Joliet-Chicago. It was there I learned the impact of bringing love and fellowship of divinity to impoverished lives. It showed me to model the light of authenticity to empower passion and life to those whose lives have lost their purpose, mission and self-value. It was this most powerful experience that enlightened my future path as a minister, clergy and interfaith chaplain.
While figuring out my next moves: I became involved with a secular mission's program, Luxottica's Gift of Sight program, resumed work with applied behavior analysis, and worked as a mental health professional to a supervising neuro-psychiatric physician with people with traumatic brain injury and other neurological disorders.
After meditation and many prayers, I entered an interfaith theology program to emerge and learn about other faiths and spiritual practices. My interest into chaplaincy was facilitated by wanting to minister in ways to people of all faiths; I thought an interfaith study, interfaith advanced degree, and interfaith ordination would assist my journey in wanting to work with clinically ill populations in hospitals and end of life care in hospice and palliative care populations. Today, I find myself in a place of miraculous miracles at work to be a spiritual provider and spiritual counselor in Chaplain positions to earn CPEs and Board Certification soon.
My exploration has brought many progressions to my spiritual growth and development. While serving as Assistant Youth Pastor, the expression of my divinity was moving inwardly to understanding elements of my faith and relationship to G-d from a standpoint that was absent from the paradigm of the church. Along with my family, we all had a sense that there could be an experience that was deeper beyond the teachings of the church. The evolving question was: how our direction connection to G-d strictly depended on a social paradigm of ritual-like guidelines, a "specific" experience that perfectly linked to the bible, and an emphasis of beliefs with a high degree of authority. As my point of view of theology reformed, there was criticism of this element of being lost and losing sight of what was right or good with G-d. There was this implied idea that I was going down a road that resulted in the support of evil ways. It was then that I searched toward new expressions of metaphysics, healing modalities, new thought practices, meditation, and yoga. I attended several Buddhist and Hindu temples for puja services and sesshin programs. At one point I studied Ayurvedic practices for health in addressing issues of the mind-body connection. I also had an employer, neuro-psychiatric physician and naturopathic practitioner who also was a spiritual teacher in eastern arts of practices, modalities, and certain philosophies. She influenced me, and we paired together to attend various practices of holistic healing arts to help people on a spiritual level. These culminations lead me into the later road of interfaith ministry.
My personal devotional time is quite developed and consists of a devoted routine: morning devotionals of sacred texts (Torah; Bible; Upanishads; Bhagavad Gita; Talmud; and Saddharma-Pundarika); mid-day meditations; "moments of crisis meditations"; intercessory prayer at night of my prayer list; midnight chants/mantras; periodical fasting; and observances of favorite major holidays across faith groups.
I feel that G-d has been at work leading and guiding me into one of the most unique paths that I would have never imagined for myself while I was articulating my desires and forming my dreams. Most of my dreams were that I would work in therapeutic practice position. I realized that my calling for ministry was confirmed while I was in Bolivia, so I also felt that my life path would involve intimate pastoral work of some kind. Upon reflection, I do believe G-d was working through every transition of my ministry works (assistant youth pastor; missionary; hospice ministry) and my personal crises (spiritual identity crisis; challenges with lymphoma; educational determinations). I firmly affirm that my life has navigated into a direction where I am developing my interfaith ministry as a Chaplain in areas of hospice care and behavioral health. While writing this autobiography, the message I received in my meditation during the formation of this narrative was: I am the movement of a miraculous master!
As in the Old Testament, King David was a man who sought after the heart of G-d through various trails; similarly, my own challenges and experiences have shaped who I am today. My early childhood extremely connected to multiple experiences with my grandmother, with whom created a spiritual atmosphere for my personal and psychological development. She instilled many spiritual habits that I hold true today. I found this rewarding and enjoyed connecting with the omnipotent experience while I was growing up as a child. My grandmother had a true gift of discernment, and she was able to decipher through the masks of my behaviors and making determinations if they were god centered. It was my father's grandmother, while overall family, who instilled spiritual behaviors and mindsets within me. Today, I am grateful for her many kinds of interventions and spiritual-based parenting. It was my grandmother Lillian in particular, while overall family, who instilled spiritual behaviors and mindsets within me. Today, I am grateful for her many kinds of interventions and spiritual-based parenting.
With that said, my introspection and meditations led me to a higher source of connection, while I was a teenager. As my hunger grew, and my curiosity forged my search for the Realness and Oneness ... this is when I truly found myself. My early ministry, which I would not "technically" call it that at the time, began when my family (initiated by my Grandmother and her own search for G-d) left the Catholic faith and started attending a new church. This church had a heavy message and heavy presence on Christian faith, miracles of healing and works of the Holy Spirit, and prosperity.
While growing up in a multi-faith family; my grandmothers were ideal models in showing me my spiritual and biological heritage. As I sought after the Divine, I also knew a part of my spirit yearned for an Essence that was being hidden from me- my connection to my Judaism roots. Shortly after, my grandmother became ill for several years following my grandfather's passing on my mother's side.
I became very involved as a member of a non-denominational Christian, spirit-filled congregation in the late 1990s. I was involved in every "member" program, which led to becoming a lay minister of several member programs of the church. Then one day during a service, the Senior Pastor was preaching a message about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He was getting off-topic, because I remember the message started much differently, staring in the book of Proverbs. Soon after, the climate and message changed, the Senior Pastor looked at me, out of a crowd of literally thousands of congregants and claimed, "You are a special Messenger of God, I claim that in you." Suddenly, all the attention was on the Senior Pastor and I. My whole future then started to take another more important path. A transition occurred, by a divine appointment, as a member, lay minister, and teen leader into a position as an Assistant Children & Youth Pastor from that point on until I entered college.
While in Bolivia as a missionary almost 6 years later, and later becoming involved with the Gift of Sight (another missions program connected to the job I had while working through school) kept reminding me of "this calling" I had. I found my heart kept chasing toward the Divine and perfecting what my real purpose was in all these related experiences. I did enter Graduate School at the time and soon-after, I had to medically unenroll for a time period to address treatment for cancer. My health crisis, additionally, showed me my value and worth. My diagnosis and my strength to fight was a test to determine my faith of seeking "inward" and trusting in the spiritual connection that I always proclaimed there was in my earlier ministry. Upon contemplation, I knew that another doorway was re-opening for me. I later found the New Seminary for Interfaith Studies, to further my calling as an Interfaith Minister and enter a seminary program in for Interfaith Studies. The core values of interfaith ministry resonated to me as a person who values diversity and sacred activism. My current interests have been to be a chaplain to many and not to the few, regardless of a person's walk of life or faith group.
My current work in hospice and palliative care has led me to understanding my role as a pastoral care provider in addressing the psychospiritual challenges of aging community around us. It has been my work in bereavement and end-of-life care that has allowed me to refine my clinical skills to help assist patients with: guiding someone through the stages of grief, assisting residents with distress, providing helpful coping strategies, facilitation of advanced directives, and motivating patients to seeking self-reflection or life review.
My interfaith approach has informed my foundation in working with people of multiple faiths and addressing all individual psychospiritual crises. This same theology has instilled in my own practice to learn to see things that are beyond appearances and recognizing that there is a greater Essence at work. As people are their own path with its' own lessons; my role is to help validate, not to change or provide judgement. My current ministry has allowed me to channel acceptance and love. There is no understanding needed other than natural empathy from being of self-less service. My perspective of how I help and hold sacred space has evolved from my earlier ministries.
Despite my direct background of behavioral psychology, I am still learning to become a better listener and its' importance in utilizing reflective listening in the hospice setting. I have been careful to not offering general advice, even prayer or healing requests, in order to ensure that they are in the heart space to be open. I have found that an indirect approach of providing the environment for answers to be found. Most patients benefit when there is space to address their decisions; leading a person to find their dignity to enable their own self-growth. I have been able to effectively hold consciousness for patients has becomes my strength and my miracle to others. I have learned that my role as a pastoral care provider is to reflect and reveal to someone their soul's authenticity through the sacred practice of presence. My role in practicing presence is to offer patients the comfort, support, and psychospiritual engagement.
As I approach continued supervision in hospice and palliative care, I have started to see my own uniqueness in clinical settings of hospice. As I begun to look at my own wounded nature and personal experiences of my grandparents passing. My own grieving process for them still has shown me how special my role is and the unremarkable nature of my influence as a chaplain to be an instrument of change. With several successful navigations that provoke my own awareness of my grief, I have found that my personal belief system and personal, "integrative" theology, has been a cathartic contagion for my patients. My interactions and relationships with my patients have deepened. While there is more mastering to do, I have become adept at developing a genuine rapport and establishing therapeutic unconditional reward. My chaplaincy has led me to seeing the pertinence of the following values in my chaplaincy practice: trust, acceptance, respect, encouragement, and healing.
My psychological orientation as a chaplain and pastoral provider is multi-faced and evolved into its own holistic application. I find my practice draws from numerous of theoretical approaches. Although I have a fondness for transformative application of Jungian Psychology, concepts, such as "wholeness" and "consciousness," instructs how I posture myself in clinical interactions. My bereavement work is forged by Wolfelt's concept of reconciliation and the psychospiritual value applicable to the grieving process. As grief never leaves and never stops, reconciliation is a better framework to moving through all the stages of grief. Going through grief is more about the recovery. Each reconciliation stage is something that is more integrative and being able to help someone re-determine meaning and purpose in life. My behavioral edge allows clarity in how to change our current situation and how to pastorally address negative perceptions, unhealthy blindspots, and irrational thoughts that could be contributing to spiritual crisis or other challenges surrounding the patient.
I have a Bachelor of Art in Psychology with a minor in Gender Studies at Benedictine University. I completed an advanced clinical internship in applied behavioral analysis for the completion of this degree. Shortly after, I began my studies in a master's program for Applied Behavior Analysis but could not complete due to an illness. This experience allowed me to deeply reflect on my path and later influenced my decision to pursue religious and theological studies instead. While contemplating my theological direction, I continued my crisis intervention and outreach ministry as well as completed post-graduate studies in Alcohol and Drug Counseling at the Haymarket Center in Chicago, Illinois. In 2017, I started an advanced program of Interfaith Theology at the New Seminary for Interfaith Studies and received a Master of Theology (M.Th.), with a pending dissertation in their Doctorate of Ministry program (D.Min). In March of 2018, I began my studies in Clinical Pastoral Education with the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CSPS) earning 2 CPEs and education with the Association of Professional Chaplains (APCE) earning 1 CPE.
I began my initial pastoral work as an Assistant Youth Pastor for Family Harvest Church while I was working as an Apprentice Optician for Luxottica Retail. As my search for sacred truth developed, I searched for a religious framework that was more progressive toward issues of social justice and oppression toward certain, multi-faith communities, as I grew up in a multi-faith household of a Christian Father and a Jewish Mother. I was promoted at Luxottica Retail to Regional Coordinator for their "Gift of Sight" program, an outreach program for underserved communities locally and internationally providing optometric care and evaluation for children, adults, and seniors. My work with outreach programs and my addressing social justice issues led to an approval by Benedictine Abbot Hugh Anderson at my undergraduate college as an ecclesiastically endorsed Missionary to Bolivia. I served as a chaplain, ABA therapist, and missionary to a children's neurological hospital in Sucre, Bolivia providing pastoral care and behavioral drills and modification instructions to support staff at the facility. After my assignment as a Missionary, I worked for several mental health agencies (Will County Crisis Center; Little Friends, and Cornerstone Services) providing ABA services, crisis counseling, and sexual assault prevention advocacy.
Later in my career, I worked as a Mental Health Professional for a Neurological-Chiropractor/Advanced Care Physician specializing in naturopathic neuro-psychiatric health until her retirement. Bio: Greetings! My name is Mary Scott Campbell Soo, and I currently live in Durham, North Carolina. I grew up in the countryside near Richmond, Virginia, attending a nearby small Episcopal church. I left for college at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and after applying to medical school in my senior year, one of the last classes I took spring semester was my favorite—"World Religions". I was struck that the true essence of the religions we studied (Taoism, Buddhism and Hinduism) was the same, and really no different from the heart of the Episcopal teachings I grew up with—unconditional love, kindness, compassion, and forgiveness. My opportunity to contemplate spirituality was short lived—I hid my feelings as I entered medical school. I underwent radiology residency training in Pittsburgh, then sub-specialty training in breast imaging at Duke University Medical Center, where I have since been on faculty as a breast imaging radiologist and researcher, working with women in the early detection of breast cancer.
On New Year's Day in 2002, I heard a voice saying, "It's time to give back." At that time, I not only had a busy breast imaging career, but was also raising two beautiful daughters and playing national and international ultimate frisbee tournaments. From that moment, however, my spiritual life, which had been left in the shadows of a busy medical career and other life events, started to emerge, and bloomed into a lifelong desire to remember the Love of God in all people and all things. In 2003, my sister gave me a copy of "A Course in Miracles", which has become my guiding spiritual practice since that time. I also began studying Buddhism and other world religions, embracing the similarities at the heart of them all.
In 2008, I became a hospice volunteer, and in 2009 was ordained as an interfaith minister through All Faith's Seminary International. In 2011, I trained as a chaplain intern at Duke University Hospital; simultaneously, within my breast imaging career, I began studying the spiritual needs of women during breast biopsy procedures, including the benefits of lovingkindness meditation in that setting. During this time, I also hosted and facilitated an "INSPIRE" (invitation to spiritual reflection) support group for over 10 years, and along with my fiancé Adrian have built a chapel (the Gratitude Chapel) at our new home "Love's Way". There, we have facilitated a bi-weekly "A Course in Miracles" group since 2017, among other mediation groups and interfaith spiritual retreats.
As an interfaith minister, I have also performed spiritual, humanist and religious weddings since 2012. Helping to develop completely personalized ceremonies and guide couples through the intimate and sometimes vulnerable moments leading to their wedding day results in life-long friendships and connection; being present in the precious moments celebrating the love and connection between the bride and groom during the ceremonies is always a complete delight!
I have also had a life-long passion for creating art, and in the past 20 years have focused on the preciousness of people and relationships in our lives. More recently I have produced more spiritually inspired works that I hope to share.
My friends refer to me as Mary Scott or Scotty. I look forward to meeting you!

World AWAKE Involvement: With gratitude to Rev. Susanna Macomb for her invitation and inspiration, I hope that my participation in World AWAKE can help me bring the light of interfaith connection to the Triangle area in North Carolina. The World AWAKE statement "Building bridges to a peaceful world community" encompasses what I hope my budding ministry at Love's Way can offer this community. Through our "tea on the patio" program, we hope to offer personal time for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. For others, we invite one-on-one or small groups to "Become INSPIRED" (invitation to spiritual reflection and dialogue). Small group silent retreats and interfaith gatherings will be offered in our chapel, along with intimate weddings and other ceremonies. In addition, through spiritually-inspired art work, I hope to share loving-kindness, hope and compassion to those in need.
